Ngày 6/8, chính quyền thành phố Hiroshima (Nhật Bản) đã tổ chức lễ tưởng niệm sự kiện Mỹ ném bom nguyên tử xuống thành phố này ngày 6/8/1945 - sự kiện đau thương ghi dấu một trong những trang đen tối nhất của lịch sử nhân loại.
Sáng 6/8, đánh dấu 78 năm ngày Mỹ ném bom nguyên tử xuống Hiroshima (Nhật Bản) trong Chiến tranh Thế giới thứ II, thành phố này đã tổ chức lễ tưởng niệm các nạn nhân tử vong và gửi đi thông điệp về một thế giới không có vũ khí hạt nhân. Thủ tướng Nhật Bản Fumio Kishida cùng các quan chức chính phủ và hơn 100 quan khách quốc tế tham dự buổi lễ.
Tổng thống Obama khẳng định sẽ không xin lỗi về vụ Mỹ ném bom nguyên tử xuống Hiroshima khi ông thực hiện chuyến thăm lịch sử tới thành phố này.
Giáo hoàng Francis I nhấn mạnh những ký ức đau đớn của vụ Mỹ ném bom nguyên tử xuống Hiroshima và Nagasaki là sự nhắc nhở rằng việc sử dụng vũ khí nguyên tử phải bị cấm.
Sau khi Mỹ ném bom nguyên tử xuống Hiroshima và Nagasaki (Nhật Bản), nhiều nhà khoa học tham gia Dự án Manhattan luôn cảm thấy dằn vặt lương tâm bởi họ không thể nghĩ rằng thứ vũ khí những tưởng sẽ giúp kết thúc chiến tranh lại mở ra chương bi thảm nhất trong lịch sử loài người.
